In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it can be challenging to discern whether our visions and ambitions align with God’s will for us. Maybe you are like me and sometimes find yourself questioning if you are on the right path or are merely chasing your own desires. Fortunately, the Bible provides us with guidance on how to know if our vision is right. Psalm 139 is a beautiful and insightful psalm that offers profound wisdom on this matter. When the going gets rough, we can find the clarity and confidence we need by delving into the key verses of Psalm 139.
- Search and Purify Your Motives (Verses 23-24):
Before we can determine if our vision aligns with God’s will, we must search our hearts and purify our motives. Verse 23-24 of Psalm 139 encourages us to pray, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.” This prayer is a powerful reminder to invite God to examine our intentions and cleanse us from any impure motives. When our motives are pure, we are more likely to be in alignment with God’s vision for our lives.
- Recognize God’s Multifaceted Will:
It’s essential to understand that God’s will is not always a single point or a one-size-fits-all plan. God’s will can manifest in various ways throughout our lives. He may have different plans for us in different seasons. Therefore, it’s crucial to remain open to His guidance and flexible in our pursuit of our vision.
- Trust in God’s Constant Care (Verses 1-6):
Psalm 139 reminds us that God always thinks about us. He knows our every thought, word, and step. This profound understanding of God’s constant care for us should provide us with the confidence that He is intimately involved in our lives. We can trust that if our vision is aligned with His will, He will guide us every step of the way.
- Seek Godly Counsel (Verse 7-10):
When discerning the rightness of our vision, it’s beneficial to seek godly counsel. These verses assure us that we can’t hide from God, and there is clarity in opening up to Him. Additionally, seeking advice from wise and spiritually mature individuals can help us gain a better perspective on our vision and whether it is in harmony with God’s plan.
- Embrace God’s Design (Verses 11-16):
Verse 11-12 of Psalm 139 reminds us that even in our darkest moments, God is with us. He designed us with a mind, body, and spirit, and He understands our temporary struggles. We should take solace in the fact that God has the capacity to handle our momentary setbacks and difficulties.
Psalm 139 is a treasure trove of wisdom for anyone seeking to discern the rightness of their vision. It reminds us that God knows us intimately, cares for us constantly, and offers guidance and redemption. By searching our motives, seeking godly counsel, and embracing God’s design, we can find clarity and confidence in our vision, knowing that where we are in this moment is okay with God. I would love to challenge you that next time you feel in need of direction, read and listen to Psalm 139 daily until you fully believe its message and trust in God’s plan for your life.
