DT blog - Dekkerteam.com IMAGE: stones with the word faith painted on them TEXT: Solid Rock: A Business Built on FaithSome say faith and business don’t mix. That to talk about God in the workplace is unprofessional—or even risky.

But for us, the greater risk is staying silent.

For decades now, Ken and I have built our real estate business on one unshakable truth: who we are is shaped by Whose we are. We can’t separate our faith from our work because it isn’t just something we believe—it’s who we ‘be’. That truth guides our decisions, fuels our courage, and defines how we show up for the people we’re called to serve.

This hasn’t always been the case. There was a time when we didn’t know Jesus. And even once we did, we kept our faith compartmentalized. But over time, our beliefs became embedded in how we live and lead. We found that our clients didn’t turn away from that authenticity—they leaned in.

Not because we preach. Not because we push. But because we care. Deeply.

In today’s world, people are craving realness. They want to know that someone is making decisions from a place of integrity and not just profit. That someone will pray with them if they ask. That someone will counsel them with wisdom when it’s time to wait—not push a sale just to make a commission. We don’t pretend to be perfect. We mess up. But we aim to be led—by grace, by truth, and by love.

One of my favourite lines from the episode was this: “The risk of not being who we authentically are is greater than the risk of being who we are.” It’s a reminder that playing small to keep others comfortable is never worth the cost of losing ourselves.

Even in hard seasons—especially in hard seasons—our faith gives us strength. There have been moments we’ve wanted to quit. Close up shop. Walk away. But every time we reach the edge of ourselves, God shows up. Sometimes in a quiet whisper. Sometimes through a client’s tears. Sometimes through the words of a friend who says, “Don’t stop. You’re making a difference.”

This blog isn’t just about us. It’s about you.
If you’re someone trying to live out your values in a world that tells you to compromise, we want you to know: you’re not alone. Keep going. Keep believing. And keep trusting that what you carry inside you is worth sharing.

Whether you’re serving clients, raising kids, running a company, or simply showing up each day—the same God who called you will equip you.
