Have you ever felt like you and your partner are just not clicking on the timing front? Recently, Ken and I took some dancing lessons together. Inevitably, at some points, our timing would be off. I would move before him, or he would move before me, and we’d kinda crash into each other and step on each other’s toes. The instructor explained that when we get out of sync, the person ahead needs to pause for a moment for the other person to catch up.

Sometimes, it’s like we’re both trying to dance to different beats, and it feels like we’re frequently stepping on each other’s feet. Here’s the thing: timing mishaps in relationships are perfectly normal. This can become a significant real-life issue, especially when making big decisions like buying or selling a house. But you know what? There’s a simple trick that can make all the difference: the pause.

Hitting the pause button for a split second to breathe and wait for or with your partner is powerful. Sometimes, it means letting your partner take the lead before you jump in. And let me tell you, the momentary halt works like magic. Just that tiny moment of waiting can help you both get on the same page and avoid those toe-crushing missteps.

Now, I get it. Life moves fast, and sometimes, it feels like there’s just no time to hit pause. A short pause can save you an immense amount of time in the long run. In real estate, if we don’t stop with the buyers to make sure we have the details right, the outcome can be disastrous. Think of it like the moment of suspense before the punchline of a joke. Without it, the joke just falls flat. The same goes for communication in real estate – if you don’t take that moment to pause and clarify things, you can end up in a mess.

Pausing also gives us a chance to communicate more effectively. We’ve all experienced times when a lack of communication turns even the best-laid plans into a disaster. So, next time you’re hashing out details with your partner or your real estate agent, take a moment to pause and ask yourself, “What’s next?” Trust me, it can make all the difference.

While we’re on the topic of growth, let’s talk about how important it is to grow together as a couple. Sometimes, one person might be ahead of the other in terms of personal development or interests. But instead of letting that create a gap between you, why not hit pause and find ways to catch up together? It may mean one partner listening to an audiobook of a hard copy the other person has read to discuss the concepts. Part of moving forward together is taking the time to wait for each other because we all operate at different paces.

So, there you have it. The power of the pause. It’s such a simple thing, and it can completely change the game when it comes to navigating the ups and downs of relationships. So, next time you feel out of sync with your partner, remember to hit that pause button and realign. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.
